Addie LaRue is perfect for this time of year, if that helps ;)

*immediately runs to the nearest bookshop to get The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue*

I reread at least one or two books every year (usually when I’m feeling a bit lazy but don’t want to stop reading) and it definitely changes the way you experience a book. There is something about it, like rewatching a movie and suddenly noticing details you totally overlooked the first time. But oh how I wish I could read my favourites with brand new eyes.

It's so gorgeous and sentimental and magically wrought, honestly!

I completely agree with you – it's comforting and a wonder all at once to delve back in, but notice new details.

I need to adopt your book ban idea! I have so many unread books sat on my shelf and can never resist going into a bookshop and excitedly adding to the collection. I need to catch up with myself before I add any more!

I'm so glad I did it, because the books I bought last year are all books I *needed* to read this year, if that makes sense?

I'm with you on The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue; it's such a special read! x

There's nothing quite like it, is there? I've been poring the Internet for news of that fabled film adaptation this weekend.

A bit off-topic, but I love the opening lines of this newsletter! I sometimes wish I could read Harry Potter for the first time once again since I was so young that I don't even remember how reading it the first time felt.

Thanks Frieda! Pretty proud of how this piece came together~

Aw me too. I've reread it so, so many times over the years and can't quite remember the initial magic. And now I fear I'll never recapture that spark, especially with Rowling's awful awful 'hot takes'.

I really want to reread Pachinko, it’s indeed such an amazing book! And Pew has been on my list for forever!

I reread Pachinko a few months back and loved it even more! Haven't watched the Apple TV adaptation yet though, even though I looove Lee Min Ho. And ahhh, you're so lucky hahah – Pew is great and especially so for a first read.

I haven't gotten round to watching the adaptation myself and am considering a reread before I do!

All the more excited for Pew now ahh

oh i would give anything to read addie larue for the first time again!

I seem to be the only person in the whole entire WORLD who absolutely hated Pachinko by Min Jin Lee! I tried so hard to get into this, but ended up getting about 60% of the way through and finally throwing in the towel. What on earth am I missing with this one?! On a more positive note, I can absolutely agree with Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman - the backdrop to my early teen years! Did you catch the TV adaptation a few years ago? Thoughts!?

You’re certainly not the only one! I’ve heard similar from plenty of readers and friends over the years. I suppose because it’s such a long and slow family saga? They don’t always appeal to everybody (and that’s a good thing!). Plus, this one means you don’t spend an awful amount of time with any specific character?

Ooh I must’ve missed that adaptation. Notoriously bad at watching TV 😂 I’ll have to get to it soon!

You have me intrigued with Piranesi, just popped it on my ever growing to read list! On another note, I love a reread, it’s like revisiting an old friend.

It's worth all of its hype and praise, I promise!

I would LOVE to read Addie LaRue and I'm now super intrigued by Pachinko too. Noughts and Crosses is definitely on my list as one I'd love to read for the first time again, as well as A Thousand Splendid Suns, Fourth Wing, and The Midnight Library (I'm sure there are others that I just can't remember).

I'm super inspired by your book buying ban! I try and do this but end up desperate for something 😂 But I have so many books to get through that I might try this!

My boss actually has a condition where her short-term memory lasts approximately two months. There's a lot more science around it than that (lol) but she loves it for reading because she cannot remember a single thing about a book after that time, so just makes a note if she loved it so she can read it again 🤣

Something tells me you'll love Addie LaRue, Soph!

It's been agony visiting bookshops and leaving empty-handed, but I think it's made me a more mindful reader AND shopper. Looking forward to my first bookshop visit in January 🥳 and omg, what a condition!! Is it odd to say I wish I had that for books?!

I think I will too!

Omg your first bookshop visit will be INCREDIBLE!!! Can't wait to see that haul 🤩

It's definitely not odd to say you wish you had that for books, I always say how jealous I am that she can just reread her favourite book over and over 🤣
