Reading these is always a highlight of my week (even if I'm very late to this one!). There's something so indescribably wonderful about gifting/receiving a plant that's been cut from a mother plant. The tenderness and consideration that goes into that is really something else, so I loved reading that one in particular <3
SWANNNNS! Aren't they the most magical birds to watch?!? I spotted one along the river on my cycle this morning and just stopped to watch him/her as she/he was so beautiful! This is, as usual such a dose of joy for the weekend. I'm so sorry about the job but, I'm glad that you have spun it on it's head and turned it into a positive. I'm also pleased you're settling into your new place and feeling better and, that bloody Covid didn't rob you of a glorious bluebell walk. Sending so much love xxx
I am so obsessed with watching them glide across the water. They're so elegant and look just otherwordly in a way? We've got some nesting swans (didn't snap a photo as the Mama looked a little restless!) and I'm really enjoying walking over every few days to watch from afar.
Thanks so much Sally! Life has been a real whirlwind recently! I feel much better about the job now, and it's been great to slowly build up my energy levels post-COVID.
You have swans at your local lake?!!? So jealous! Good luck with the rest of your job search. Applying to jobs is always sooo rough, but I know you'll find where you're meant to be!
Lots and lots of them! Our nesting Mamas are so sweet, and it only means even more swans come summer. Thanks Caroline! Thankfully it was an internal job – I'd been up for a promotion to a newly created role – so I'm happy to continue on in my current role, which I love anyhow!
I used to read your Open Hearted Joys series many months (or years ago?) with a voice in my head saying, "i wish i could notice more of the little things too!" Now as I unconsciously started to notice the clear azure sky, the golden hue of sunset reflecting on the trees, all the blooming flowers on my way back to what I now call home with my boyfriend, I realized that I can notice small things too, not by force but because I truly want to see, and it boosts my day tremendously.
I'm so glad that this series has helped you to notice the smaller joys. It's really transformed my outlook on life, I think it makes me a more balanced person somehow? And, welcome to Substack!
I get so inspired reading you lists weekly. When I have a bad day and one of these pops up, it always gives my heart a flutter. Thank you for being you! 😊
Aw thank you so much Riza, what a lovely comment! I think all of us can often do with a reminder that there are good things, even when the days feel rough and the world is... *gestures wildly*
